Bespoke Kinetic Engineering for the Award-Winning “Samsung x KaDeWe” Takeover
MACHINESHOP fabricated and engineered custom mechanical interactive systems for the Samsung x KaDeWe campaign, a massive experiential retail takeover at the iconic KaDeWe Department Store in Berlin. Developed alongside leading creative forces, this high-profile project completely reimagined traditional window displays into reactive physical installations, earning the prestigious FWA People’s Choice Award.
The embedded campaign showcase and behind-the-scenes engineering videos capture the complex mechanical builds, software integration, and extensive workshop testing needed to synchronize practical movements with user inputs on a live street front.
Advanced Mechanical Fabrication & Interactive Window Rigs
Transforming 10 individual storefront window displays into high-traffic interactive art installations requires robust automated controls, responsive trigger sensors, and flawless mechanical durability:
- Custom Automated Window Mechanics: Designing and building specialized kinetic drive rigs tailored to fit perfectly within the narrow architectural footprints of retail displays.
- On-Cue Public Interaction Engineering: Integrating complex internal control electronics that link physical mechanisms to motion-capture or touch triggers, allowing passing crowds to manipulate elements inside the glass.
- Continuous-Use Mechanical Reliability: Utilizing industrial-grade internal gears and low-vibration motors calibrated to operate safely and seamlessly through millions of daily public activation cycles.
