Oliver Clegg Chess Set
The Oliver Clegg chess set installation consists of two sets of reproduction antique ornamentals created by Machine Shop; one set was produced from polyurethane and the other from polished clear acrylic. Each set forms an opposing side in the chess match.
The pieces were made by taking 3D scans of original antiques chosen by artist Oliver Clegg from Sigmund Freud's surviving collection. The collected data was then used to 3D ‘print’ one set of models that were then expertly painted to look real. The same 3D data was then used to CNC machine the remaining set from solid acrylic, these were then polished before installation.
In addition to the chess set, Machine Shop created the desk that formed the chessboard and provided a beautiful replica of Freud's chair that was painstakingly 'aged' from a brand new construction to provide the correct ‘look and feel’. More...
